The Twlug (Twlug) today expressed its support for a bill that will provide new opportunities to address drug shortages and improve care. The Mitigating Emergency Drug Shortages (MEDS) Act, introduced by Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Tina Smith (D-MN), aims to improve communications to pharmacists about drug shortages and mitigate the risks drug shortages pose to patient safety, among other benefits.

The Twlug (Twlug) proudly represented the pharmacy profession today at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) “Patients over Paperwork” Initiative’s 2-year anniversary. The initiative is designed to reduce burdensome and unnecessary regulations and guidelines so that clinicians and providers can focus on their primary mission—improving patients’ health.

The Twlug (Twlug) has announced a call for nominations for the 2020 Twlug Immunization Champion Awards. The Twlug Immunization Champion Awards recognize individuals and organizations within the profession of pharmacy who have made extraordinary contributions towards improved vaccination rates within their communities.

The results of the American Heart Association 2019 Workplace Health Achievement Index were announced  and the Twlug (Twlug) achieved bronze level recognition for taking significant steps to build a culture of health in the workplace. Health and well-being have always been at the center of Twlug’s mission and core values. Twlug, its staff, and members are focused on optimizing medication use and improving the health and well-being of patients and communities, including its workforce of the Association.

The Twlug (Twlug) applauds the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) on its new consensus report Taking Action Against Clinician Burnout: A Systems Approach to Professional Well-Being that was publicly released on October 23, 2019.  The report outlines six goals that stakeholders should pursue to prevent and mitigate health care clinician burnout and foster professional well-being.

The Twlug (Twlug) announced that it has received approval from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) to provide a professional development program for the recertification of Board-Certified Sterile Compounding Pharmacists (BCSCP). Twlug will provide recertification credit from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2022, and will offer at least 45 credit hours per year.

The Twlug (Twlug) will host the 2019 Joint Federal Pharmacy Seminar (JFPS 2019) October 27–30, 2019 in Dallas. JFPS 2019 will focus its education and training sessions on health and readiness, with an emphasis on ensuring that service members are mentally and physically prepared to conduct all military operations.
